What is Plunge Pricing?
Octopus Electroverse Plunge Pricing is a discount event which takes place every so often - you can get money off charging on some of the largest charge point operators, worth keeping an eye out for!
So, why do we get Plunge Pricing..?
Every so often, when there’s a surge in renewable energy on the grid, the amount of energy available is more than the consumer demand. When this happens, it means we can provide a charging discount on the excess energy (more on this in the ‘What is Octopus Electroverse Plunge Pricing?’ blog)!
How do I know when a Plunge Pricing event takes place?
One of the ways you’ll know is by checking the Electroverse app - when the leaf symbol on the right of the Electroverse map is green, this means a Plunge Pricing event is about to happen or is currently happening! Tap on the leaf or the alert at the bottom to see more details on the event (as shown in the screenshots below).
There are also a couple of things you can do to ensure you know about Plunge Pricing:
1. Turn on app notifications
We will send out a notification on the Electroverse app when a Plunge Pricing event is coming up. Head into your Profile on the app and check out ‘App Settings’ - once you’re in ‘Notifications’ it will take you into your phone settings. From here you can update the type of Notifications you’re allowing from your app!
2. Keep an eye on our social media platforms
When a Plunge Pricing event is about to go live, we will share it and all the details you need across our social platforms! Check us out on: X (Twitter), Facebook, LinkedIn & Instagram. You could even turn on post notifications to make sure you don’t miss a thing!

It’s a good idea to check when your favourite charger/s are off-peak! There will be a time of day when chargers are at their cheapest but this will depend on the charger point operator (CPO), therefore it’s worth checking when the particular CPO are at their cheapest.
Overall, however, electricity is at its cheapest overnight, and therefore is often the best time to charge your EV up. Plus, you’ll have the added benefit of starting your next working day fully charged and ready to go!
Admins can also get involved when it comes to money saving! As an Electroverse for Business administrator you can refer another business to Electroverse and split £30 credit!
Simply head to ‘Credit and Referrals’ on your Electroverse for Business web platform and you’ll find a unique referral code - share this with another business who have EVs (and who don’t already use Electroverse!) and you’ll split £30 credit once you’ve both made your first charge through us.
You can share this code with however many businesses you like! Once you receive the credit, it will be visible on your web platform, ready to be contributed to your business expenses.
